Before pickup, during the ride, or after drop-off
Save messages about the meeting point, the time the driver arrived, and any change to the requested pickup. If the incident happened while you were approaching or leaving the car, describe where you were and what the vehicle was doing rather than labeling it as an ordinary in-ride crash.
Keep acceptance, cancellation, and completion information if it is available to you. A charge or refund does not explain every detail of driver activity. If the app’s recorded time differs from your memory, preserve both and mark your recollection as approximate.
The same care is useful if you were another motorist or a pedestrian near a pickup. Record the vehicle details and what you observed without assuming you know the driver’s app status. These records can help frame the coverage investigation, but they do not establish fault on their own.
How Hoffman Legal can help you start
A consultation is an opportunity to explain the collision, identify the people involved, and review questions about trip activity and insurance. Share what you know and flag details that are uncertain. Your next steps depend on your circumstances.
- Passengers: bring the trip receipt, booking details, and your own account.
- Rideshare drivers: preserve app activity and the policy information you have.
- Other road users: keep vehicle details, scene information, and witness contacts.
For emergencies, call 911. Seek appropriate care for injuries and save the documents you receive. Do not put yourself at risk to gather evidence.
